Email Prayer Chain Ministry

 

Our parish offers an email prayer chain ministry. The e-mail prayer chain is made up of people who regularly check their e-mail and desire to be part of the prayer team.
Prayer requests will be sent via e-mail allowing you to pray for members and friends of our parish. If you would like to be a part of this ministry please send your email address to prayers@saintsylvesterparish.org.
If you have a personal prayer request or would like to pass on requests from others they can also be emailed to the above address. Sensitivity and care will be taken to provide confidentiality in prayer requests.

  • Josephine Toney, mother of parishioner Sam Toney (wife Mayra) who passed away Sunday morning. Josephine will be buried from Epiphany parish on Wednesday. Her obituary can be found in the Post Gazette. click here
  • Virginia, mother of a parishioner, who has colon cancer. She will be having surgery today to remove three tumors. Due to her age (89) and health condition, the surgery and recovery will be challenging. Please pray for hers surgery and recovery and that the peace of Christ might be with her in this journey.
  • Beth, daughter of a parishioner's friend, a diabetic who needs to have bypass surgery. Because of her diabetes there is some risk with the surgery.
  • Chris, the friend of a parishioner who is to undergo serious heart surgery on Tuesday. Her surgeon feels there is a high risk of her not surviving the procedure, but there is also an equal risk of heart failure without the surgery. She has two daughters who are expecting babies this year and hopes to live to see her new grandchildren. Pray that the surgery might be successful.

June 12, 2010

  • Jim, the brother of a parishioner who has been diagnosed with throat cancer. He recently suffered heart failure and he is now in brain trauma. Please pray for his recovery and healing.
  • George, a parishioner who will have surgery on Monday for a new heart valve. He requests prayers that he may be able to resume normal activities.
  • Virginia, a parishioner, who is unable to walk and afraid she may have to be admitted to a nursing home. Pray that she might accept whatever lies ahead.

  • Josephine, the mother of a parishioner, who has been sick for a while with congestive heart failure. She has taken a turn for the worse and is now only being given treatment to make her comfortable. Please pray that she might experience peace during this time.

  • Nancy, the sister-in-law of parishioners, who is dealing with a serious bacterial infection in her knee that has penetrated her bones and ligaments. She is making daily trips to the hospital for IV antibiotics for the next 6-8 weeks, and although only in her 60's cannot get around without a walker. Please pray for God's healing touch and comfort.

  • Virginia, mother of a parishioner who is in the hospital with an infection and other complications.
  • Pat, a parishioner who has back problems and is facing possible surgery.Pray that she might find some relief from the pain.
  • Connie, the mother of a parishioner who has been diagnosed with 3 aneurysms. The first surgery will be on July 2nd and the next in February. Please pray that the operation is a success and for strength as she prepares for the operation. Also prayer for her Doctor and his staff that they might be guided in the surgery.
  • John, a parishioner who has been hospitalized since he had emergency back surgery on Easter Sunday with many complications. Pray for his healing and comfort.

  • The daughter of a parishioner. She is an unwed mother who now lives back at home. Pray that she might be open to bringing her child for baptism and that she might accept the guidance and love of those close to her.
  • The 8th grade students of St. Sylvester School who graduated last night. May their Catholic education give them a good foundation for future years.
  • Connie, who is having surgery in July for an aneurysm located behind the eye. Pray that the surgery might be successful and for Connie's recovery and good health.

  • Dorothy Maiden, a parishioner who died yesterday. Her funeral Mass is on Saturday in Saint Sylvester Church. Dorothy's death notice can be found in the Post Gazette.
  • Joan White, mother of parishioner Andy White. Joan passed away yesterday afternoon. Visitation is scheduled from 2 to 9 pm on Sunday at John F. Slater Funeral Home, 4201 Brownsville Rd. The funeral service will be on Monday (the time is yet to be determined) at Knoxvile United Church, 148 Jacunda Street.

  • Max is 22 months old and is having serious problems with his bowels. His is undergoing some extensive and uncomfortable tests to diagnose the problem. Max's father Don is battling serious health problems as well. Please remember them in your prayers.
  • Laurie, a friend of a parishioner. She is a gifted teacher that cares about her students beyond the classroom. She has been trying to have a baby for quite awhile now with no success. Please pray for her and her husband as they seek medical help.
  • Tina, a friend of a parishioner. Tina has battled breast cancer successfully. She has just found out that she now must get a full hysterectomy because of cancer cells found in her uterus.

May 20, 2010

  • David and his wife Amber. He is the son of a former parishioner. Amber has breast cancer and is undergoing chemo treatment. She was rushed to the hospital with gall stones, but there is also other problems they could not determine from the CT scan. David has deep vein thrombosis and irregular heart beat. He is subject to dizziness and collapse. Please keep them and their two young babies in your prayers.

  • Ted, the grandfather of a parishioner who is in the hospital with pneumonia and congestive heart failure. He had quadruple bypass surgery three years ago. Please pray for his comfort and healing.

  • The children of our parish who will be making their first Holy Communion this weekend. Pray that they might remain close to the Lord throughout their lives.
  • James Gallagher, a parishioner who died this past Wednesday and will be buried on Monday. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 am in St. Sylvester Church. His obituary can be found in the Post Gazette.
  • Jim, the father of a parishioner recently on our prayer list. His cancer has spread to the lymph nodes and they will begin chemotherapy on Monday. Please pray that this treatment stops the cancer growth and that he keeps his faith and stays strong and remains positive.

  • The father of students in our school who has been struggling with liver cancer. Testing shows no increased growth of the disease, but also no shrinkage either. Please pray for him and his wife and family for continued strength from the Lord as they continue fighting this cancer.

  • Jim, the father of a parishioner, who has been on our prayer list for prostate cancer. He has finished his radiation and has an appointment on Friday as doctors determine the chemotherapy needed. Please pray for his good health and for some encouraging news on Friday.
  • Lilly, the niece of parishioners, who was on our prayer list before her birth. She is now five weeks old and failing to gain weight and is having seizures. Her father is serving in the army and the family is in Germany.
  • Mary, the mother of a parishioner. The closing of her home of 40 years is today. She is feeling a great loss in the sale of the home and with the death of her husband just over a year ago, she needs prayers to help her to move on.

  • Debbie, a friend of a parishioner who is recovering from colon cancer. She has been cleared as cancer free, but got and infection in the hospital which is delaying her recuperation.

It was recently discovered through a second opinion that the infection is back, caused by dental work done two years ago. Please pray for comfort and guidance for Tony in what lies ahead with surgery. Also, that he may find understanding and peace to live without fear.

  • Greg, a friend of a parishioner who has been on our prayer list. He has been in the hospital since Christmas with liver disease and underwent a liver transplant two days ago. Please pray for him as he has many more obstacles to overcome.

  • David, the brother of a parishioner who will be having a tumor removed from his liver today. This surgery was scheduled for last Friday but was postponed.
  • Keith, a parishioner, who is hospitalized for pancreatitis and is undergoing testing for possible gall bladder problems.

  • Anthony, the 16 year old grandson of a parishioner. He has learning disabilities and has been suffering from abdominal pain.
  • Nolan, the newborn son of the relatives of a parishioner. It was feared he may have respiratory problems, but it appears he is healthy for his size 4 lbs. 13 oz. Please keep him in prayer that he might continue to grow stronger each day.
  • Prayers of thanksgiving for Andrea, the cousin of a parishioner who had been on our prayer list. The biopsy results came in yesterday and the cancer DID NOT spread. The mass in the other breast was not cancer. Andrea thanks everyone and that your please continue praying for her as she still has 18 more radiation treatments.

  • Debbie, the friend of a parishioner. Her colon surgery was successful and they are checking to see if the cancer spread further. She has been experiencing high blood pressure. Please pray that her recovery might go well and that the cancer is under control.
  • Carmen, a friend of a parishioner, who was just diagnosed with Stage IV lung cancer and will soon be beginning treatment. Pray that it is successful and that God gives him the strength and faith that will help in his ordeal.

  • Brianne, sister of a parishioner, is in Germany with her husband who is stationed there and she is hospitalized with premature labor. Their baby is due in April. Please pray that they may be a support for each other and that doctors are able to prevent a premature delivery.

  • Ralph, a parishioner, who is to have rotator cuff surgery on his left shoulder today, due to a fall on the ice before Christmas. Please pray that surgery and recovery go well.
  • Dave, the brother of a parishioner, who is having surgery today to remove a tumor from his liver.
  • Kurt, the son of a parishioner who has been on our prayer list. Kurt will have surgery on Tuesday to do a resection of the liver in an effort to remove cancerous portions. He will need 6 months of chemotherapy following the surgery, so please keep him and his family in your prayers in the coming days and months.

  • Jim, the 89 year old brother of a parishioner. He is in the hospital and facing the possible loss of an eye. Please pray that he stays strong in spirit and begins to heal so that his eye might be saved.
  • Jonny, a young parishioner who has been on our prayer chain. He is home from the hospital and his prognosis is excellent. All his symptoms are slowly subsiding and his pain is drastically reduced. Thank you for your continued prayers.
  • Zaini, the brother-in-law of a parishioner. He is recovering from an appendectomy. Pray that his health may continue to improve.

  • Ralph, a parishioner, who was clearing snow and experienced elevated heart rate. He was taken to Mercy Hospital and treated for cardiac arrhythmia. Pray that his current good recovery continues.

  • Eli, the 15 yr.old relative of a parishioner who is scheduled for open heart surgery. Please keep him and his family in your prayers and that the surgery and recovery might go well.
  • Debbie, a friend of a parishioner who is in early stages of colon cancer. She is scheduled for an operation on Wednesday, however an abnormal EKG must be resolved first with further testing.
  • Andrea, the cousin of a parishioner. She recently had a partial mastectomy and chemo. They have found a mass in the other breast and she will undergo a biopsy next Tuesday to determine if the cancer has spread.
  • Ken, a parishioner who is still recovering from a stroke. The doctor has informed him he must make a decision about a test that he needs which may put him in great danger of a serious stroke. Please pray he has the strength and guidance to make the right decision.
  • Mary, a parishioner who has been unemployed for six months, that she might find employment.

  • Matthew (age 17) Grandson of Ann a co-worker of a parishioner who is having trouble dealing with the loss of a parent and is having extreme anger issues. The Grandparents have placed him in a facility to help him overcome his problems.

  • Jim, the uncle of a parishioner, who is having multiple surgeries today due to an accident a few months ago. One is to remove and re-align pins in his leg and knee. The other is to remove a piece of windshield from his forehead. Pray that the surgeries and recovery go well.

  • Zaini, the brother-in-law of a parishioner who has been on our prayer list. He had surgery to remove his appendix which was severely infected and is in serious condition at Jefferson Hospital fighting infections from the surgery. Please continue to keep him and his wife Jen and their family in your prayers.
  • Jonny, the son of a parishioner. He has developed an auto-immune complication to a strep infection which will take several months to resolve itself. Because of this kidney functions need to be monitored and there is possibility for internal hemorrhaging.
  • Friends of a parishioner who are in the process of adopting two abused children. Pray that the process goes smoothly and that the children may find a loving environment to be raised.

  • A parent of St. Sylvester School students who has been on our prayer list (Dec. 2nd) He has primary liver cancer. Tests show improvement and he just completed another round of chemotherapy this past week. The family appreciates your prayers in the past and asks that you continue to pray for them.

  • An update on Sgt. Justin Lubash who had been on our prayer list (Jan 7th and Nov 28th). Justin was injured in Afghanistan. There is a very heartwarming story in yesterday's Post-Gazette.   • Dave, age 53, the brother of a parishioner. Drug therapy has been unsuccessful and he is now in need of a kidney transplant. Please pray that the transplant might be soon and also for his family as they struggle with his poor health.

  • Charlie, the grandson of friends of parishioners. He has come down with pneumonia and has been hospitalized twice. He is recovering, but still in the hospital in Maryland. His family appreciates your prayers.

  • Evette, the co-worker of a parishioner, who was recently diagnosed with breast cancer and will be starting chemotherapy. Pray that treatment is successful.
  • Mike, the brother of a parishioner, who has been on our prayer list. Mike has throat cancer and has completed 35 radiation treatments and 3 chemotherapy treatments. A recent PET scan shows he is cancer free, however he is very sick from the side effects of the treatments and is having surgery to alleviate the condition. Since this cancer is very aggressive and can reappear several months after treatment, please continue to pray for Mike that he remain cancer free and continue to recover.
  • Ed, the father of a parishioner, who will undergo surgery in a few weeks on his neck and spine. He is experiencing loss of feeling in his feet and without surgery the condition could worsen to loss of the use of his legs and breathing difficulties. Please keep him in your prayers as the surgery to relieve pressure of the compacted tissue and nerves is near the base of the brain. Pray that surgery might be successful.
  • Parishioners who are trying to conceive a child. Pray that they might be blessed with the gift of a child.

He had shrapnel removed from his neck, arm and calf at a hospital in Germany and is now recuperating in Colorado.
